Episode #37: Serene Room (Song at 6:37)
Hi there, welcome to another episode. This week, once again, I look at a song I’ve written…
This song is about the lounge in my house. As the title states, it’s got a serene sort of vibe.
As I look into the lyrics, we discover the words have had the effect of taking me back in time to when I was a child. Then the view out the window gets me out of my skin…and my thoughts take me to the beach… (You can see the ocean in the distance from my window).
Earlier today I was painting at the beach and I might just have got a bit wetter than I was planning.. I talk about that wee adventure – and another story about someone else involving a wave.
From a songwriting point view, each week I draw attention to aspects of songwriting. If you’re not overly into that, don’t worry, I don’t waffle on for long periods about theory. Yes, I talk about it, but I talk in layman a terms, in an entertaining manner.
I enjoy taking as I sit at my piano. My fingers play some keys absentmindedly at times, almost like a soundtrack. I also use the piano to demonstrate the musical songwriting processes that go on, most often intuitively.
It’s a complex business, but I do my best to make it simple as I explain my thought process…what inspired the song, how it evolved..
Sit back, grab a cuppa and I’ll tell you about my lounge, some songwriting and a couple of stories about waves at the beach.
You’ll get to step in to the shoes of a songwriter. Ever wondered how it feels to write a song? Now’s your chance to find out…
Enjoy.
